The present Directorate of Agriculture and Food Production, Odisha started functioning from 1945 (before independence) as the Directorate of Development .

Directorate of Horticulture and Directorate of Soil Conservation were separated from it & started functioning independently during 1977 and 1978 respectively. The erstwhile Implement Factory (IF), presently renamed as Odisha Farm Machinery Research & Development Centre (OFMRDC) started under the Directorate of Agriculture and Food Production in the in the year 1960-61.The Odisha Lift Irrigation Corporation, Odisha Small & Agro Industries Corporation, The Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency were carved out from the Agril Engineering Wing of Directorate of Agriculture and Food Production one by one & established themselves as separate Organization.
The OAESA started functioning in the year 1971 as soon as the first batch of CAET joined Govt service in Agriculture Department & with continuous effort, persuasion OAESA has made significant achievement in the year 2017.The Agril Engineering cadre has been restructured on 2.06.2017.Now the no of posts in Agril Engineering cadre is 450 as detailed below.

• Superintending Engineer( level-I)- 4 nos
• Superintending Engineer( level-II)- 7 nos
• Executive Engineer - 52 nos
• Asst Executive Engineers – 110 nos
• Asst Engineers –275 nos
