Farm Mechanisation in Odisha

Since inception of Agril Engg. Wing in our state till 1995, Agril Engineers under Directorate of Agriculture were only promoting & selling manual & bullock drawn implements manufactured by Govt. Implement Factory, Satya Nagar, Bhubaneswar which has been renamed as ‘ODISHA FARM MACHINERY RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CENTRE (OFMRDC) with effect from 1st January, 2010  .  .

After 1995,motorized (1HP) power implements i.e.Thresher were introduced in the state which became very popular among farmers. After 2000 oil engine operated thresher, tractor PTO operated, power tiller engine operated axial flow thresher, self propelled transplanters, reaper, rotavator, etc. were introduced. In 2008 combine harvester was promoted in the state along with varieties of high value implements & machinery. It is amazing that the poor farmers of Odisha now are in a position to operate rotavator, transplanter, reaper, combine in their field. Farm mechanization is advancing in the state beyond one’s expectation. The photos in the photo gallery tells the truth.

Civil Engg. Work Executed by Agril Engineers

Before 1995, the Agril Engineers in the state were only executing farm development work, repair of office building, garage etc. costing below rupees 1 lakh. During the period of Taradutta Sharma, DA & FP (95-98) the Agril Engineers were compelled to construct go downs worth Rs. 7 lakh.
During the period of Sri Arabinda Padhi, DA & FP(2007-09) & Sri U.P.Singh, Principal Secretary ,Office buildings starting from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 4 crores were given to Agril Engineers for execution following the mode of ‘e’ tender process and engagement  of contractors starting from B class to Special class. Some of the completed buildings have been inaugurated by the Hon’ble Governor of Odisha, Chief Minister of of Odisha, Agriculture Minister & different MLAs of the state including the RDC of northern zone.
